This massive Imperial Stout presents a decadent fusion of roasted depth and vinous elegance. Built on a foundation of Black Tuesday, it delivers intense layers of dark chocolate and poached fig. The addition of Syrah and Grenache grapes introduces a sophisticated wine-like character, offering bright, juicy red fruit notes and a subtle, peppery spice. Aging in French oak puncheons imparts structural tannins and soft vanilla undertones that bridge the gap between the rich malt and the concentrated grape influence. It is a powerful, velvety experience where dark roasted grains meet the jammy, complex fruit profile of a premium red blend.
Appearance. Opaque, jet black with a deep mahogany edge. It supports a small, dense, dark tan head with moderate retention. Thick, oily legs slowly descend the glass, indicating significant viscosity and high alcohol content.
Aroma. High intensity with a complex blend of bittersweet chocolate, espresso, and dark roasted malts. These are deeply intertwined with vinous aromas of ripe plums, blackberries, and a distinct poached fig character. Subtle French oak provides hints of sandalwood and vanilla, while the Syrah and Grenache grapes contribute a bright, jammy fruitiness and a touch of spice.
Taste. Initial impression is exceptionally rich, featuring flavors of dark chocolate, molasses, and toasted grain. Mid-palate, the Grenache grapes provide a burst of juicy red fruit, while the Syrah adds depth and a savory, peppery spice. Hop bitterness is moderate, balancing the substantial residual sweetness. The finish is long and warming, with lingering notes of dark fruit, cocoa, and fine-grained oak tannins.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and exceptionally viscous with a chewy, velvety, and luscious texture. Carbonation is low, enhancing the silkiness. A smooth, significant alcohol warmth is present and noticeable but remains well-integrated without being harsh.
