Infused with Cabernet Sauvignon grapes and aged in French oak puncheons, the profile opens with a dense bouquet of espresso, dark chocolate, and black currants. The French oak imparts structural tannins and delicate vanilla notes, grounding the beer's immense 15.4% ABV. On the palate, luscious layers of dried figs and jammy berries meet a firm roasted bitterness. The finish is long and warming, displaying a sophisticated interplay between rich malt sugars and the sophisticated, dry acidity of the wine grapes.
Appearance. Opaque, jet black (40+ SRM). Deep tan head with moderate retention. High viscosity is evident by thick legs forming on the sides of the glass.
Aroma. High intensity. Rich roasted malt notes of dark chocolate and charred grain. Pronounced vinous esters of black currant and raisin from the grapes. Subtle vanilla and toasted wood from the French oak maturation.
Taste. Initial impression of intense bittersweet chocolate and espresso. Malt flavor is deeply roasted but smooth. Prominent dark fruit flavors of plum and black cherry merge with grape-derived tannins. Firm bitterness balances the significant gravity. The finish is lingering with a drying oak character and vinous warmth.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and exceptionally chewy with a velvety, luscious texture. Alcohol warmth is prominent and spirit-like but smooth. Low carbonation. A slight tannic astringency from the oak and grapes is present.
