This monumental Imperial Stout, built upon the legendary Black Tuesday base, offers a sophisticated sensory experience shaped by Atlas Peak Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. The deep, viscous character yields intense aromas of bittersweet chocolate and espresso, seamlessly integrated with the dark fruit complexity of black currants and jammy blackberries from the grape must. Aging in French oak puncheons imparts elegant layers of toasted vanilla and subtle wood tannins, providing a structured counterpoint to the velvet-like body. The finish is long and luxurious, balancing the significant warmth of the high alcohol with a vinous, dark-fruit elegance that blurs the line between a robust stout and a refined red wine.
Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque. It pours with a small, dense, dark tan head that exhibits low retention due to high alcohol content. Highly viscous with prominent legs clinging to the sides of the glass.
Aroma. Intense and complex, featuring deep roasted notes of dark chocolate, espresso, and molasses. A heavy vinous influence from the Cabernet Sauvignon grapes provides secondary notes of black currant, plum, and raisin. The French oak contributes subtle toasted vanilla and spice, while the alcohol is noticeable but smooth and well-integrated.
Taste. The palate is dominated by a rich mix of roasted malts, cocoa, and dark fruit. Initial flavors of bittersweet chocolate lead into a mid-palate defined by tart grape skins, blackberry, and dark cherry. Moderate hop bitterness is present but largely masked by the massive malt sweetness and fruit density. The finish is lingering and warming with a balanced oak tannin structure that prevents a cloying aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Very full-bodied and chewy with a thick, velvety texture. Carbonation is low to moderate. A significant, smooth alcohol warmth is present throughout. Low astringency is balanced by the creamy mouthfeel and fruit acids.
