The pour is viscous and ink-black, releasing an intense bouquet of roasted hazelnut, milk chocolate, and delicate chocolate pirouettes. On the palate, deep layers of dark chocolate meld with the spirituous influence of the rum, offering notes of molasses and toasted oak. The staggering alcohol content provides a formidable but integrated barrel heat, characteristic of The Bruery’s bold approach. Complexity reigns as the roasty malt backbone balances the spirit-forward sweetness, culminating in a lingering, velvet-smooth finish.

Appearance. Opaque, jet black with a thin, dark tan head that recedes quickly to a fine collar; significant viscosity is evident through heavy legs and sheeting on the glass.

Aroma. High intensity; rich milk chocolate and roasted hazelnut dominate, supported by dark fruit esters like raisins and plums. Significant rum character provides notes of vanilla, spice, and molasses, alongside a noticeable but clean alcohol presence.

Taste. Initial impression is decadent and sweet, transitioning into deep dark chocolate and espresso roast. The Thomas Tew rum barrels contribute distinct notes of burnt sugar and oak.
