This formidable Imperial Stout radiates an intense sensory profile defined by its festival strength and deep complexity. Utilizing Farnham white bine hops and many generations of traditional English yeast, it presents a masterclass in balance despite the high gravity. The addition of whole bean Finca Terrerito coffee drives a decadent core of sweet espresso and cold brew, woven into layers of dark chocolate and thick molasses. Prominent dark fruit esters—reminiscent of raisins and plums—meld with a subtle touch of vanilla. It is a velvety, viscous experience that pays homage to the legendary, oversized stouts of the past with a modern, coffee-forward elegance.
Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque (40+ SRM). Pours with a thick, dense, dark tan to mocha-colored head with moderate retention. Significant viscosity is apparent through visible legs on the glass after swirling.
Aroma. High intensity. Dominated by rich, freshly roasted coffee and bittersweet chocolate. Prominent esters of black currant, prune, and raisin from the English yeast. A subtle, earthy, and herbal hop character from the Farnham white bine provides balance against a noticeable but smooth alcohol warmth and a hint of vanilla.
Taste. An initial impact of bittersweet espresso and dark cocoa is followed by deep layers of molasses and burnt grain. The Finca Terrerito coffee provides a vibrant cold-brew brightness. Firm bitterness from both hops and roast balances the residual malt sweetness. The finish is long and warming with lingering notes of dark fruit, charred wood, and sweet chocolate.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and exceptionally chewy with a luscious, velvety, and mouth-coating texture. Carbonation is low to moderate. A significant but well-integrated alcohol warmth glows in the throat without being sharp or solventy.
