This opulent Imperial Stout pours an impenetrable onyx, immediately releasing a decadent bouquet where roasted coffee and creamy vanilla entwine with the tropical richness of organic coconut. The addition of Fuggles hops introduces a subtle, earthy grounding to the intense dark chocolate and charred malt profile. On the palate, the coffee provides a firm, roasty backbone that balances the velvety sweetness of the vanilla, while the coconut lends a luscious, oily depth. Despite its strength, the alcohol is smoothly integrated, leading into a lingering finish of bittersweet cocoa and refined woodiness, creating a harmonious and sophisticated sensory experience.
Appearance. Jet black and opaque (40+ SRM). Pours with a thick, persistent deep tan head that leaves dense lacing. High viscosity is apparent in the slow-moving legs on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity; dominant notes of fresh espresso and toasted coconut are supported by a sweet vanilla bean fragrance. The malt provides a deep base of dark chocolate, black licorice, and toasted crust, while Fuggles hops contribute a low, earthy, and slightly floral spicy character.
Taste. Initial impression is rich and sweet with prominent coconut and vanilla. The mid-palate transitions into heavy roasted malt flavors of bittersweet chocolate and dark-roast coffee. Fuggles hops provide a mild earthy bitterness that complements the roasted grain. The finish is moderately sweet and creamy, leaving a long aftertaste of mocha and toasted nuttiness.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and chewy with a velvety, luscious texture enhanced by the oily coconut. Carbonation is moderate. A smooth, gentle alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated, with no astringency.
