Tempest Mexicake is an opulent Imperial Stout that captures a lush sensory profile inspired by Mexican culinary traditions. This deep black pour offers an intense bouquet of rich cocoa and fragrant vanilla, accented by the warm, woody aroma of cinnamon. The malt backbone provides a licorice-like depth that harmonizes with the complex contributions of Mulato and Chipotle chiles. On the palate, the chiles introduce nuanced dried fruit notes and a delicate, smoky undertone rather than aggressive heat. The 11% ABV lends a smooth, well-integrated warmth, supporting a velvety texture that carries the spiced chocolate character through a long, lingering finish.

Appearance. Jet black and opaque (SRM 40+). Pours with a thick, creamy, deep tan head that shows moderate retention. High viscosity is evident as legs on the glass.

Aroma. High intensity. A rich foundation of dark chocolate, coffee, and black licorice maltiness is layered with pronounced aromatic vanilla and spicy cinnamon. Mulato chiles contribute distinctive dried fruit notes of plum and raisin, while Chipotle chiles add a subtle, savory smoke. Alcohol is noticeable but smooth and well-integrated.

Taste. Initial impression is an intense mix of bittersweet cocoa and roasted grain. The malt profile is complex, featuring toast, caramel, and dark chocolate. Hop bitterness is firm but balanced by significant residual sweetness. Vanilla and cinnamon provide a dessert-like mid-palate, while the chiles offer fruity complexity and a very light, earthy smoke. The finish is long and persistent with lingering roast, spice, and alcohol warmth.

Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and chewy with a velvety, luscious, and creamy texture. Carbonation is low to moderate. A significant, smooth alcohol warmth is present without being sharp or harsh.
