This Imperial Black IPA bridges the gap between a robust Porter and a vibrant American IPA. The foundation of Golden Promise and Munich malts provides a sturdy, bready base, while Carafa ensures a deep, midnight hue and restrained hints of chocolate. An aggressive hop profile featuring Mosaic, Simcoe, and Columbus defines the experience, bursting with dark berries, resinous pine, and sharp citrus. The palate experiences a seamless integration of roasted malt complexity and fresh hop oils, leading to a cleansing, spicy finish. It is a bold, high-intensity brew that balances dark-grain depth with a relentless hop attitude.

Appearance. Opaque, deep ebony to black (35–40 SRM) with a dense, persistent tan head that leaves significant lacing. Clarity is high where light manages to penetrate the edges.

Aroma. High intensity hop aroma dominated by blackberry and stone fruit from Mosaic, complemented by Simcoe’s resinous pine. A secondary layer of Columbus provides a spicy, earthy depth. The malt presence is moderate, offering light toast, coffee, and dark chocolate notes from the Carafa malt without any burnt or ashy character.

Taste. The initial impression is a burst of citrus and berry-like hop flavors followed by a firm, clean bitterness. The Munich and Golden Promise malts offer a smooth, slightly sweet bready core, while the roast presents as gentle cocoa and roasted nuts. The finish is dry and lingering, highlighting a resinous pine and blackberry aftertaste that cleanses the palate.

Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, velvety texture. Carbonation is moderate, providing a crisp lift. A noticeable but well-integrated alcohol warmth is present, reflecting its 7.2% ABV strength, without any harsh astringency.
