Tempest’s Tropicalia is a vibrant Wild Specialty Beer that captures the essence of a sun-drenched escape. At a sessionable 4.5% ABV, it presents a bright, lactic tartness that perfectly complements a lush profile of tropical fruits. Aromas of passion fruit, pineapple, and mango dominate, harmonizing with a delicate funk derived from the wild fermentation. The palate follows suit, offering a refreshing acidity that cleanses the tongue, leading to a crisp, bone-dry finish. This tropical sour balances its exotic fruit character with a subtle, underlying cracker-like malt base, making it an incredibly approachable and effervescent expression of the style.
Appearance. Pours a hazy, pale straw color (SRM 3-4) with a fleeting, brilliant white head that dissipates quickly into a thin ring; minimal lacing is observed due to the high acidity.
Aroma. High intensity of tropical fruit aromatics, specifically ripe passion fruit, guava, and tart pineapple. A clean, sharp lactic acidity provides a bright backbone, accompanied by a very low, doughy malt presence and subtle earthy notes from the wild fermentation.
Taste. Immediate burst of tart tropical fruits, echoing the aroma with mango and passion fruit flavors. The malt is a background player, offering a slight cracker-like sweetness before being overtaken by a moderate-high lactic sourness. Hop bitterness is negligible, allowing acidity to provide structure. The finish is very dry and refreshing with a lingering citrusy tang.
Mouthfeel. Light body with a prickly, high carbonation that enhances the perceived acidity. No alcohol warmth is present. A slight, pleasant astringency from the fruit provides a clean, mouth-watering sensation.
