Tempest Brewing Co

This alcohol-free spiced milk stout offers an incredibly rich sensory experience, defying its low ABV. The pour is a deep, dark brown with ruby highlights, releasing an inviting aroma of sweet milk chocolate, roasted malts, and a fragrant, warming blend of chai spices. On the palate, the lactose provides a creamy, comforting sweetness that beautifully balances the robust chocolatey malt profile. Warm notes of cinnamon, cardamom, and ginger from the chai integrate seamlessly, leading into a smooth, slightly sweet, and spice-tinged finish that mimics the body of a traditional English Porter.

Appearance. Deep brown in color (approximately 25-30 SRM) with clear, brilliant ruby highlights. It features a moderate, creamy, light tan head with fair retention and delicate lacing.

Aroma. Moderate to high intensity. Prominent sweet milk chocolate and toasty, bready malt aromas from chocolate malt are accompanied by an aromatic bouquet of chai spices, showcasing cinnamon, cardamom, and ginger. The sweetness of lactose is apparent as a creamy, vanilla-like undertone. Hop aroma is very low and earthy, with clean fermentation characteristics and no alcohol presence.

Taste. An initial impression of sweet chocolate malt and creamy lactose is immediately met by a wave of warming chai spices. The malt profile delivers rich cocoa, toffee, and toasted biscuit notes without any harsh, burnt, or acrid roast. Earthy hop flavor is very low. Medium-low bitterness balances the sweetness without drying out the palate, leading to a smooth, medium-sweet finish featuring lingering chocolate and exotic spice flavors.

Mouthfeel. Medium-light to medium body, bolstered significantly by the unfermentable lactose which wards off the typical thinness of alcohol-free beers. Carbonation is moderate. It possesses a notably creamy texture with no astringency from the roasted malts or spices, and zero perceived alcohol warmth.
