This unique interpretation of a Berliner Weisse captures a vibrant, spritzy character through a blend with a soft, fruity blonde ale. At its heart, a clean lactic sourness provides a refreshing backdrop for an expressive bouquet of lime and margarita-like citrus. The aroma is playfully complex, weaving together confectionery notes reminiscent of pink Starburst and Juicy Fruit with an unexpected, subtle hint of freshly shaved nutmeg. On the palate, the doughy wheat and Pilsner malt base supports a lightly tart profile that remains incredibly drinkable. Appearance. Pale straw (2-3 SRM). Large, dense white head with poor retention. Highly effervescent with a slight haze consistent with wheat-based blending.
Aroma. Moderate to high intensity. Dominant clean lactic sourness is accompanied by bright lime citrus, suggests of tropical fruit gum, and sweet confectionery notes. A unique, low spice note of shaved nutmeg sits atop a faint bready wheat background.
Taste. Initial impression is a sharp, clean lactic acidity. Balanced by a light bready and grainy wheat malt flavor from the blonde ale blend. High fruitiness presents as lime, citrus zest, and peach-like esters. Bitterness is undetectable, allowing the tartness to provide the balance. Finish is very dry and crisp with a lingering citrus acidity.
Mouthfeel. Light body with a crisp, refreshing acidity. Very high carbonation creates a spritzy sensation. No alcohol warmth or astringency; exceptionally smooth creaminess from the wheat.
