This award-winning Baltic Porter offers a sophisticated, smooth profile born from lager yeast fermentation and extended cold-conditioning. The aroma is defined by rich maltiness, weaving together notes of dark chocolate, molasses, and deep toffee with an elegant ester profile of raisins and plums. On the palate, a gentle, Schwarzbier-like roast emerges, delivering flavors of coffee and licorice without any burnt harshness. The addition of Czech Saaz hops contributes a delicate, spicy undertone that balances the malt sweetness. At 8% ABV, it presents a deceptive, well-integrated warmth, concluding with a clean, lingering finish of dried fruit.
Appearance. Opaque dark brown with reddish-copper highlights; thick, persistent tan-colored head; clear despite its depth of color.
Aroma. High intensity; rich malt scents of deep toast, dark chocolate, and molasses; moderate esters of dark cherries and currants; very low spicy hop notes from Czech Saaz; clean fermentation character.
Taste. Richly malty initial impression; flavors of nutty caramel and licorice; smooth roasted coffee mid-palate; low spicy hop flavor; medium-low bitterness; dryish finish with lingering dark fruit and no burnt acidity.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and exceptionally smooth; medium-high carbonation provides a mouth-filling quality; noticeable but well-aged alcohol warmth; low astringency.
