Loki is a deceptive Imperial Black IPA that masks its dark visuals with a bright, tropical soul. Utilizing a heavy hand of Southern Hemisphere hops, specifically Topaz, Nelson Sauvin, Kohatu, and Ella, it delivers a massive wave of stone fruit and juicy resin characteristic of a Triple IPA. While the dark malts provide a slightly roasty character and a deep black appearance, the palate remains remarkably hop-forward. This high-ABV offering balances intense bitterness with smooth alcohol warmth, challenging expectations by pairing the abyss of roasted grains with the vibrant, sun-drenched fruitiness of New Zealand and Australian hops.
Appearance. Opaque black (38-40 SRM) with a deep, ruby-tinted edge when held to light. Topped with a thick, persistent, light tan head that leaves dense lacing.
Aroma. Intense hop intensity featuring prominent stone fruit, passion fruit, and crushed white wine grapes from Nelson Sauvin. In the background, a subtle, clean, roasted malt character provides hints of dark chocolate and coffee without acridity. Neutral fermentation with noticeable but smooth alcohol.
Taste. Initial impression is a massive explosion of juicy stone fruit and tropical hops. The flavor profile is dominated by Topaz and Kohatu hop characters, supported by a clean, soft malt backbone with light cocoa and toasted bread notes. Moderately high bitterness is firm but smooth, leading to a medium-dry finish with a lingering, resinous, and fruity aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a smooth, velvety texture. Medium carbonation provides a gentle lift to the palate. Noticeable and comforting alcohol warmth is well-integrated and lacks any harsh solvent qualities.
