Kukulkan is a decadent Imperial Stout that marries the intensity of dark roasted grains with an intriguing botanical twist. A collaboration with Piglove Brewery, this beer presents a sophisticated sensory profile dominated by the cooling presence of Mint essence and the unique, woody, sassafras-like character of Hoja Santa leaves. Rich layers of Chocolate essence provide a confectionery sweetness, purposefully evoking the nostalgia of a classic mint chocolate bar. Underlying the specialty additions, the sturdy malt base offers notes of espresso and dark cocoa, finishing with a lingering, minty freshness and a smooth, well-integrated alcohol warmth.

Appearance. Jet black and opaque (SRM 40+) with a dense, creamy, deep tan head that shows moderate retention. High viscosity is visible in the way the liquid coats the glass.

Aroma. High intensity; prominent dark chocolate and cocoa aromas are layered with a distinctively fresh, cooling mint. The Hoja Santa leaves contribute a unique woody, herbal nuance reminiscent of anise. Deep roasted malt notes of espresso and charred grain provide a robust backdrop, complemented by subtle dark fruit esters.

Taste. Initial impression is of rich, velvety chocolate followed by a refreshing minty coolness. Deeply roasted malts offer flavors of bittersweet chocolate and toasted bread. The Hoja Santa adds a complex woody character and herbal spice. Bitterness is moderate, providing balance against the confectionery sweetness. The finish is long and indulgent, leaving a lingering impression of mint chocolate and gentle roasted grain.

Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and chewy with a luscious, velvety texture. Carbonation is moderate, enhancing the creaminess of the chocolate notes. A gentle, smooth alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated into the thick body.
