This Double Red IPA delivers an intense sensory experience centered on a massive Citra hop profile. At 9% ABV, it strikes a bold balance between deep, toasted malts and vibrant New World hops. The aroma is saturated with Citra's signature layers of pink grapefruit, passion fruit, and lime zest, all underpinned by a sturdy foundation of caramel and light toffee. On the palate, an assertive bitterness cuts through the initial malt sweetness, revealing resinous pine and tropical fruit. The finish is lingering and warming, harmonizing a complex malt backbone with the clean, aggressive hop-forward character of a high-gravity Specialty IPA.
Appearance. Deep ruby-amber to reddish-brown in color (SRM 15-18). The beer is brilliant to clear with a thick, persistent off-white to light tan head that exhibits excellent lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma dominated by grapefruit, melon, and tropical fruit notes characteristic of Citra. A moderate malt character provides a supportive base of toasted bread, caramel, and a hint of dark fruit. Clean fermentation profile with a subtle, well-integrated alcohol note.
Taste. Initial impression is a firm hop bitterness that remains medium-high to high throughout. The flavor features complex medium-caramel and toasted malt notes balanced by intense citrusy and resinous hop flavors. The finish is dry to slightly off-dry, leaving a lingering, clean bitterness and a touch of fruity esters.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a smooth, slightly creamy texture. Carbonation is moderate. A noticeable but pleasant alcohol warmth is present, reflecting its 9% ABV, without being harsh or fusel.
