TapRoom Beer Company Creative Differences
American IPA 6.8 º
This collaborative West Coast India Pale Ale delivers an intense sensory experience driven by Mosaic Lupomax, Mosaic 702 Flowable, and HBC 586 Lupomax. The aromatic profile is dominated by a vibrant pineapple swirl and deep purple tree resin, accented by a distinctively dank, herbal pungency. On the palate, the hop saturation is fully 'snapped,' offering sharp, assertive bitterness that cuts through a lean malt backbone. The interplay of tropical fruit and forest floor resin from the Mosaic and HBC 586 varieties results in a complex, high-impact flavor profile that remains remarkably dry and crisp through a clean, lingering finish.
Appearance. Deep gold to light copper (SRM 7-9) with brilliant clarity. Features a medium-sized, off-white head with excellent persistence and thick lacing.
Aroma. Intense hop-forward aroma featuring ripe pineapple, tropical berry, and sticky pine resin. A noticeable dank, cannabis-like pungency is present, supported by a very low, clean, crackery malt profile and a neutral fermentation character.
Taste. High-intensity hop flavors of tropical fruit, citrus peel, and resinous spice. Low grainy maltiness provides a clean foundation for firm, assertive bitterness. The finish is decidedly dry and crisp, with a long-lasting aftertaste of resin and tropical hops.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a smooth, crisp texture. Moderate-high carbonation provides a refreshing bite. Very light, smooth alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated, without any perceived astringency.

TapRoom Beer Co. Creative Differences
After many months of discussion and ideation, we recently worked closely with the team from Pizza Port Ocean Beach to develop a pair of beers that would demonstrate each brewery’s prowess to the fullest. Sometimes we’ve just gotta highlight our creative differences!
We wanted to approach the design with each strength in mind, and in doing so blended our deep love of craft malt and specialty hops with their excellent grasp on process and technique. Through this process, we decided that we would mirror the design of the recipe – keeping to the same ABV and IBU targets, but brew one version with craft malt and advanced hop products, and the other with traditional base malt and T90 hop pellets (the classics).
At TapRoom, we produced Creative Differences by using only concentrated hop pellets and flowable hop extract a top a foundation of Genie variety malt from our friends at LINC Malting. This provided a super saturated hop expression that demonstrates a heightened profile of ripe passionfruit, pineapple, and nug nug.
At Pizza Port, we used the same hop varietals (HBC 586 & Mosaic) but in their traditional T90 pellet form – this action contributes more plant matter to the beer, which translates to rounded flavors of fruit and a widen textural experience.
The results are two really awesome beers. Creatively different, if you will. If you love a well-rounded, hoppily perfect WCIPA, you’ll love Creative Differences.
