Appearance. Very deep brown to black (SRM 40), opaque and unfined. Large, persistent tan head with dense lacing.
Aroma. High intensity roasted malt with prominent notes of espresso and dark chocolate. Subtle underlying sweetness from Crystal malt and Caramalt provides hints of molasses. Low floral and earthy hop aroma from Goldings and Phoenix.
Taste. Initial impression of sharp roasted barley and bitter coffee. Moderate-high bitterness balanced by a slight malt sweetness. Mid-palate reveals herbal hop flavors. The finish is moderately dry with a lingering roasted grain aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, creamy texture. Moderate to moderately-high carbonation. No alcohol warmth.
