Paranormal Activity is a vibrant Double IPA that showcases a modern, tropical-forward hop profile. The aromatic experience is led by the unique HBC 1019, contributing lush notes of honeydew melon and ripe peach, which seamlessly blend with the bright, zesty lime of Motueka. The addition of Sabro introduces a distinct creamy coconut and pineapple complexity that adds depth without becoming heavy. A clean, neutral malt base allows these bold hops to shine, finishing with a firm, resinous bitterness and a crisp, dry mouthfeel. At 7.5% ABV, it balances significant hop intensity with exceptional drinkability and a lingering fruit-skin finish.
Appearance. Deep gold to light copper (SRM 7-9). Pours with a moderate-sized, persistent white head that exhibits fine lacing. Clarity is good, with only a very slight haze characteristic of heavy dry-hopping.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent pineapple, mango, and coconut notes from Sabro. This is layered with bright lime zest from Motueka and a sweet honeydew melon and peach character from HBC 1019. Malt is neutral and grainy in the background; fermentation is clean with a subtle, smooth alcohol presence.
Taste. Strong and complex hop flavors dominated by tropical fruit, lime, and stone fruit. High bitterness is present but remains clean and well-integrated, lacking harshness. The malt character is low and supportive, providing a soft cracker-like base. The finish is dry to medium-dry with a lingering hoppy and resinous aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly creamy texture. Carbonation is moderate-high, creating a lively feel. A restrained and smooth alcohol warmth is present, with no perceived hop-derived astringency.
