Szot Sismo
Szot Sismo is a decorated American Barleywine that bridges the gap between intense hop character and the rich, oxidative depth of an Old Ale. At 9% ABV, it presents a complex profile driven by a two-hour boil and the addition of chancaca, which imparts deep, molasses-like sugar notes. Expect a bold interplay of resinous hops against a sturdy backbone of bready, toasted malt and dark fruit esters. The extended boiling process creates a luscious, rounded sweetness that is expertly countered by a firm, persistent bitterness, resulting in a warming, contemplative sipper that evolves with every glass.
Appearance. Deep amber to rich copper with ruby highlights; moderately-low, light tan head with good clarity and visible legs upon swirling.
Aroma. High intensity featuring resinous and citrusy hop notes over a rich, grainy malt base. Prominent aromas of dark unrefined sugar, light caramel, and moderate fruity esters are supported by a clean, smooth alcohol presence.
Taste. Rich malty sweetness with toasted grain and dark sugar flavors from the chancaca, balanced by an aggressive hop bitterness. Notes of dried fruit and citrus hops lead into a full, malty finish that remains decidedly bitter and warming.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and chewy with a velvety, luscious texture; smooth alcohol warmth is noticeable but well-integrated, supported by moderate carbonation.
