Sureshot Brewing How’s the Despair?

This modern American Amber Ale, a collaboration between Sureshot and Galway Bay, presents a striking ruby red hue and a sensory profile defined by its dual focus on depth and brightness. The aroma leads with high-intensity resinous pine and subtle stone fruit notes from a generous dry hopping of Simcoe. This hop character is layered over a complex malt backbone that offers toasted bread, light spice, and rich caramel. On the palate, a firm bitterness balances the initial malty sweetness, leading into a spicy, dry finish. It is a well-structured example of the style, marrying New World hop vibrancy with traditional malt richness.
Appearance. Deep copper to ruby red (SRM 14–17). Large, creamy, off-white head with excellent retention and persistent lacing. Brilliantly clear.
Aroma. Moderate to high intensity. Pronounced piney, resinous, and slightly spicy hop character from Simcoe, accompanied by hints of apricot. Malt profile is moderately-high with notes of toasted grain, rich caramel, and a subtle peppery spice. Esters are low to none.
Taste. Initial impression is of toasted malt and caramel sweetness. This is quickly met by a firm, assertive bitterness and Simcoe hop flavors of pine, resin, and earthiness. The middle palate reveals a spicy malt character. Finishes medium-dry with lingering hop bitterness and a clean fermentation profile. No roasted or burnt malt flavors.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly creamy texture. Carbonation is moderate to high, providing a crisp bite that accentuates the bitterness. No astringency and negligible alcohol warmth.
