Sudden Death Brewing

Old Piney is a sharp, resinous tribute to the classic West Coast style, trading modern haze for crystalline clarity and a punchy, bitter profile. The aromatic profile is defined by an assertive trio of Centennial, Nugget, and Cascade hops, which deliver intense layers of grapefruit zest, forest pine, and herbal spice. A lean, clean malt presence allows the hop-derived bitterness to take center stage, leading into a bone-dry finish. This American IPA balances nostalgic flavors with modern precision, offering a crisp, lingering aftertaste of floral citrus and dank resin that perfectly defines the Best Coast tradition.

Appearance. Medium gold with copper highlights (8 SRM). Brilliantly clear with a large, frothy off-white head characterized by excellent persistence and intricate lacing.

Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent resinous pine, grapefruit rind, and floral notes. Subtle herbal spice and damp earthiness from the Nugget hops are supported by a low, clean, bready malt character. Fermentation is clean with no significant esters.

Taste. Bold initial impression of pine resin and grapefruit pith. Hop flavor is very high, showing citrus and floral spice. Low grainy maltiness provides a lean backdrop for the firm, assertive bitterness. The finish is decidedly dry and crisp, with a long, lingering hoppy aftertaste of resin and zest.

Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a smooth, non-viscous texture. Carbonation is medium-high, providing a crisp bite on the tongue. Integration of the 6.8% ABV provides a very light, smooth warmth without any harshness or astringency.
