This Imperial Stout offers a luxurious sensory experience, defined by the indulgent addition of cacao and figs. The pour reveals a dense, viscous liquid with a deep tan head. On the nose, intense aromas of dark chocolate and freshly roasted coffee meld with the fresh, dark fruit character of figs. The palate is driven by an assertive cacao intensity and supporting notes of bittersweet chocolate, balanced by a moderate bitterness that prevents the 11% alcohol from feeling cloying. Its silky, chewy texture provides a velvety mouthfeel, leading to a complex, harmonious finish of roasted grain and lingering fruit esters.
Appearance. Jet black and completely opaque (40+ SRM). Features a thick, creamy, deep tan head with moderate retention. High viscosity is evident, leaving noticeable legs on the glass after swirling.
Aroma. High intensity. Rich, deep layers of bittersweet chocolate and Dutch-process cocoa dominate, supported by secondary notes of roasted coffee beans. A distinct dark fruit ester profile, specifically reminiscent of dried figs and raisins, provides a fruity freshness. Subtle alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated.
Taste. Initial impression is an explosion of intense cacao and dark-roasted malt. Flavors of dark chocolate and espresso are prominent, complemented by a significant sweet-fruit character from the added figs. Bitterness is moderate, providing enough structure to balance the rich malt sweetness without becoming aggressive. The finish is long and harmonious, featuring lingering notes of roast and dark fruit.
Mouthfeel. Full to very full-bodied with a chewy, velvety, and silky texture. Carbonation is low, enhancing the luscious and heavy mouthfeel. A smooth, noticeable alcohol warmth is present, remaining pleasant rather than hot.
