Styles Lilly Smoke is a classic Rauchbier that elegantly captures the rustic essence of Franconian brewing. This amber lager is defined by its use of traditional beechwood-smoked malts, which impart a prominent yet clean campfire and savory bacon-like aroma. These smoky notes are layered over a foundation of rich, toasted malt and soft caramel, characteristic of a well-crafted German lager. A light touch of noble hops provides a subtle spicy counterpoint and a balanced bitterness. At 6% ABV, the beer remains exceptionally smooth and easy-drinking, concluding with a crisp, medium-dry finish that highlights the interplay between malt sweetness and woody smoke.
Appearance. Deep copper to reddish-amber (15-20 SRM) with brilliant clarity. Pours with a large, creamy, and persistent off-white head that leaves thick lacing on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity of clean beechwood smoke, reminiscent of smoked ham or campfire. This is balanced by moderate malty-sweet aromas of toasted bread and light caramel. Very low spicy hop aroma; fermentation is characteristically clean with no fruity esters.
Taste. The palate leads with a supportive blend of smoky and malty flavors. Rich, toasty malt and soft caramel sweetness are prominent, accompanied by a noticeable but smooth smoke character. Moderate bitterness from noble hops provides balance without being sharp. The finish is medium-dry, leaving a lingering aftertaste of toasted grain and clean, woody smoke.
Mouthfeel. Medium-bodied with a smooth, creamy texture and moderate to medium-high carbonation. Shows a clean lager character with no harshness or astringency, and a very light, well-integrated alcohol warmth.
