Styles BeGun is a vibrant Specialty IPA that bridges the gap between the rustic charm of a Belgian Harvest IPA and the dark, structured depth of its style. It opens with an explosive aroma, featuring fresh, floral hop notes from the Italian Hops Company and the distinct peppery spiciness of Belgian yeast. The malt profile is graceful, offering restrained hints of chocolate and toast that support rather than dominate the palate. With its firm bitterness and dry finish, this beer showcases a masterful balance between assertive fresh hop character and intricate, spicy fermentation complexity.
Appearance. Deep dark brown to nearly black (30-40 SRM) and clear, bordering on opaque. It is topped by a persistent, moderate, light tan head with good lacing.
Aroma. High aromatic intensity featuring prominent floral and herbal hop notes from fresh Italian Hops Company varieties. A distinct Belgian yeast character provides peppery and slightly clove-like phenols, layered over a background of toasted malt and subtle chocolate notes.
Taste. A sharp initial impression of floral hops and spicy fermentation esters. Malt flavors are restrained, offering gentle chocolate and toast without any burnt or ashy character. Bitterness is firm and medium-high, balancing the light caramel malt sweetness. The finish is dry and clean with a lingering spicy and resinous aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly creamy texture. Carbonation is moderate and lively. A subtle, well-integrated alcohol warmth is present, enhancing the spicy character without becoming harsh.
