This American Amber Ale showcases a vibrant Northwest character, defined by the interplay between its Pacific Northwest hops and a specialized malt bill. The use of Red X malt and 2 Row barley produces a deep, ruby-red hue and a smooth malt foundation that leans into toasted bread and light caramel rather than heavy syrup. A subtle addition of chocolate malt provides a nuanced, drying roastiness in the finish. Piney and citrusy Northwest hop notes provide a crisp counterpoint to the restrained malt sweetness, resulting in a balanced, highly drinkable ale with a clean, satisfying snap.
Appearance. SRM 12. Deep reddish-amber with copper highlights. Brilliant clarity. Pours with a moderately large, off-white, creamy head with good retention and light lacing.
Aroma. Moderate intensity. Dominant Northwest hop notes of resinous pine and grapefruit zest. Supported by a bready, lightly toasted malt profile from the Red X and 2 Row, with a very faint, dry cocoa hint from the chocolate malt. Low fruity esters.
Taste. Initial malty sweetness is quickly balanced by firm hop bitterness. Flavors of toasted grain and light caramel lead, followed by a distinct piney and floral hop character. The chocolate malt adds a subtle, earthy complexity without cloying sweetness. Finishes medium-dry with a lingering bitterness and a clean hop aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, slightly creamy texture. Moderate carbonation. Light alcohol warmth, consistent with its strength. No astringency.
