Stoup Brewing’s Black Punk IPA is a vibrant and approachable American IPA that emphasizes a bright, hop-forward profile. This crushable ale showcases a dynamic hop blend featuring Idaho 7, Azacca, and Centennial, which deliver a punchy medley of tropical mango, ripe stone fruit, and bright citrus zest. Despite its lighter ABV, the beer maintains a firm bitterness and a clean, grainy malt backbone that allows the hop-derived notes of pine and resin to shine. It pours with brilliant clarity and a persistent white head, leading to a crisp, dry finish that reinforces its refreshing, punchy sensory character.
Appearance. Medium gold with brilliant clarity. Pours with a medium-sized, off-white head that demonstrates good persistence and leaves light lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent notes of tropical fruit and stone fruit from Idaho 7 and Azacca, alongside the floral and citrus-pine character of Centennial. Clean, low-intensity grainy malt provides a supportive background. Fermentation is clean with very low esters.
Taste. Assertive hop flavor mirrors the aroma with layers of grapefruit, mango, and resinous pine. Initial malt impression is light and grainy, quickly giving way to a medium-high bitterness. The balance is decidedly hop-forward, finishing dry and crisp with a lingering, clean hop bitterness.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a smooth, clean texture. Carbonation is medium-high, providing a lively, scrubbing effect on the palate. Alcohol warmth is very low and well-integrated, with no astringency.
