Stone Sublimely Self-Righteous Ale is a bold and complex Double IPA that defies traditional color boundaries, presenting a dark delicacy of roasted depth and aggressive hopping. The sensory journey begins with intense aromatics of pine resin and citrus, layered over deeper notes of coffee, black currant, and dark chocolate. On the palate, a firm, solid bitterness carries vibrant flavors of orange, raspberry, and tropical fruit, which are seamlessly integrated with smooth milk chocolate and roasted coffee undertones. This medium-bodied ale maintains a remarkable drying character on the finish, ensuring the high alcohol remains supportive rather than overwhelming, resulting in a truly sublime balance.
Appearance. Deep black with a distinct reddish hue; features a persistent, lively light tan head with excellent foam retention and significant lacing.
Aroma. High intensity; pungent piney and resinous hop character is prominent, accompanied by citrus and tropical fruit notes, backed by subtle coffee, black currant, and rich chocolate malt aromas.
Taste. Initial impression is of assertive bitterness; complex hop flavors of orange peel and resinous pine transition into hints of raspberry and tropical fruit. Since then, nearly every single day, we receive multiple emails, phone calls and social media comments from diehard fans of this hoppy and dark delicacy, pleading, begging and sometimes demanding us to bring it back. (Seriously, we tried to add them all up and it was easily into the thousands.)
Because you can’t keep a great beer permanently retired, it’s made a few cameo appearances in our Stone Mixed Packs as well as on draft at our Tap Rooms and Bistros over the years. But now it’s back on its own in all its glory. Original recipe. Original artwork.
