Stone Brewing’s Enjoy By series is a masterclass in the fresh Double IPA, presenting an aggressive sensory landscape defined by an explosive hop profile. This beer offers a vibrant rush of resinous pine, zesty grapefruit, and tropical fruit aromas that leap from the glass. The palate is dominated by a firm, clean bitterness that balances a lean, cracker-like malt backbone. Its high strength is well-integrated, offering a smooth, warming sensation without detracting from the crisp, bone-dry finish. It exemplifies the West Coast philosophy: intensely hoppy, impeccably fresh, and remarkably drinkable despite its potent 9.4% ABV stature.
Appearance. Deep gold to light copper (SRM 7-9). Features a thick, creamy, off-white head with excellent retention and significant lacing. Clarity is brilliant, showing a clean, filtered appearance.
Aroma. Intense and multifaceted hop aroma; dominant notes of resinous pine, dank herbs, and bright citrus peel are layered over hints of mango and pineapple. Malt is minimal, providing only a faint, grainy, neutral sweetness. Clean fermentation with virtually no esters and a soft, pleasant alcohol note.
Taste. Initial impact is a wave of citrusy and resinous hop flavors. Bitterness is high and assertive but lacks harshness, providing a sharp structure. The malt character is supportive and unobtrusive, resembling toasted crackers. It finishes very dry and clean, with a long, lingering resinous and grapefruit-pith aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a slick, smooth texture. Carbonation is moderate-high, providing a crisp scrubbing effect on the palate. A noticeable but smooth alcohol warmth is present, with no hop-derived astringency.
