Stone Brewing Stone Delicious Double IPA is a sensory powerhouse that amplifies its namesake's profile. This Double IPA leads with an explosive hop bouquet, where Centennial hops contribute vibrant lemon and floral notes while Amarillo hops provide layers of orange and tropical fruit. Despite its potent 9.4% ABV, the beer maintains high drinkability through a clean, neutral malt backbone and a bitterness level purposefully restrained compared to typical examples of the style. The result is a bright, hop-saturated experience that emphasizes fruit-forward depth and a crisp, dry finish, perfectly embodying a modern, polished take on a Strong American Ale.
Appearance. Pours a brilliant, clear gold to light copper (SRM 7-9). It is topped by a moderate-sized, persistent white head with fine bubbles and excellent lacing.
Aroma. High intensity hop aroma featuring prominent lemon zest, grapefruit, and floral Centennial notes, alongside tropical fruit and sweet orange from Amarillo. Background malt is clean and grainy-neutral. Fermentation is clean with a very light, smooth alcohol presence.
Taste. Strong hop flavors of lemon, orange peel, and melon dominate the palate. Malt flavor is low and supportive, offering a clean, soft cracker-like character. Bitterness is moderately high but remarkably smooth and lacking harshness, especially for a beer of this strength. The finish is dry and clean with a lingering citrus and light resinous aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, almost creamy texture. Carbonation is medium-high, providing a crisp bite. A restrained, smooth alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated, with no hop-derived astringency.
