SOURPUSS is a decadent Wild Specialty Beer, a collaborative effort between Stigbergets and Ārpus that pushes the boundaries of fruit saturation. Utilizing an immense volume of mango, sour cherry, and blackcurrant purees, it presents a complex, multi-layered fruit profile. The mango provides a lush, tropical sweetness, while the sour cherry adds a bright, acidic snap. Blackcurrant introduces a deep berry complexity that anchors the experience. Supported by a grain bill of Pilsner malt, wheat malt, and oats, then smoothed with lactose, the result is a viscous, fruit-punch-like character that balances a tart lactic bite with a soft, slightly salty finish.
Appearance. Opaque and thick, resembling a fruit smoothie; color is a deep, vibrant ruby-purple. Thick, pink-tinted head with moderate retention and heavy lacing as the puree coats the glass.
Aroma. High intensity of fresh fruit; dominant sweet mango and earthy blackcurrant are balanced by a sharp, tart cherry note. Low bready malt character from the wheat and oats. Clean lactic acidity is present without significant funky esters.
Taste. Initial impression is an explosion of sweet and tart fruit punch. Massive mango and blackcurrant flavors lead, followed quickly by the biting acidity of sour cherry. Very low hop bitterness, allowing the fruit and a light salinity to provide balance. The finish is long and jammy, with a creamy sweetness from the lactose and oats.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and highly viscous with a thick, smoothie-like consistency. Moderate carbonation provides a slight lift to the heavy palate. Low alcohol warmth; high creaminess with a touch of fruit-skin astringency.
