This Double IPA from Stigbergets showcases a vibrant hop quartet. Intense aromatics of tropical pineapple and passionfruit driven by Vic Secret and Citra are sharpened by the resinous pine and grapefruit notes of Simcoe and Simcoe Cryo. The sensory profile is dominated by this saturated hop presence, supported by a clean, lean malt backbone that allows the bright fruit flavors to take center stage. At 8.5% ABV, it presents a smooth, well-integrated alcohol warmth that complements the firm bitterness. The result is a bold, modern expression of the style with a lingering, lupulin-rich finish and remarkable drinkability.
Appearance. Gold to light orange (6-8 SRM). Persistent, fluffy white head with excellent lacing. Slight haze is present, characteristic of modern heavy dry-hopping techniques.
Aroma. High intensity. Punchy tropical fruit (pineapple, mango) and citrus (grapefruit, lime) from Citra and Vic Secret. Simcoe and Simcoe Cryo add a distinctive resinous pine and light earthy undertone. Clean, neutral malt in the background; low fruity esters.
Taste. Initial hit of bright tropical fruit and zesty citrus. Hop flavors follow the aroma closely with layers of pineapple and resinous pine. Mid-palate reveals a soft, grainy malt character. Firm, moderately high bitterness that is clean and lacks harshness. Dries out in the finish with a lingering, resinous hop aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, soft texture. Moderate carbonation. Subtle, pleasant alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated. Very low astringency despite the heavy hop load.
