Phase is a bold Double IPA that serves as a vibrant showcase for premium New Zealand hop varieties. A striking deep orange hue precedes an intense sensory experience driven by the newcomer Nectaron and the iconic Nelson Sauvin. The aromatic profile is dominated by pungent tropical fruit, while the palate delivers complex layers of crushed white grapes and tart gooseberry. Despite its significant strength, the beer maintains high drinkability with a lean malt backbone and a firm, clean bitterness. This expressive ale finishes remarkably dry, leaving a lingering impression of resinous fruit and a smooth, well-integrated warmth.
Appearance. Deep orange (SRM 11-13) with a moderate-sized, persistent off-white head; excellent clarity with only a very faint, modern hop haze.
Aroma. Prominent to intense hop aroma featuring heavy tropical fruit notes of passion fruit and peach from Nectaron, complemented by the distinctive white grape and gooseberry character of Nelson Sauvin; background malt is neutral and slightly grainy with a clean fermentation profile.
Taste. Strong and complex hop flavors mirror the aroma with mango and melon leading into a vinous, gooseberry-like tartness; moderately high bitterness is firm but smooth, supported by a low, soft malt character. The finish is medium-dry and clean with a lingering hoppy aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a smooth, velvety texture; medium-high carbonation provides a refreshing lift, accompanied by a restrained and pleasant alcohol warmth that reflects its 8.4% ABV.
