On the palate, it delivers a smooth, malty experience featuring layers of toasted bread and light chocolate. Appearance. Deep mahogany to dark brown in color (SRM 20–25). Displays good clarity with a low-to-moderate, creamy tan head that shows fair retention and light lacing.
Aroma. Moderate malt intensity featuring prominent notes of toasted nuts and rich caramel. Low earthy and floral hop character from the Fuggles and Goldings is present in the background. Very subtle fruity esters reminiscent of dark fruit are detectable, with no diacetyl present.
Taste. The initial impression is malt-forward with a bready and toasty base. Flavors of caramel and milk chocolate dominate the mid-palate, complemented by a nutty sweetness. Bitterness is low, providing just enough balance to prevent a cloying finish. Hop flavor is minimal, echoing the earthy and herbal notes of First Gold and Fuggles. The finish is smooth and slightly sweet.
