St. Laurentius Cryo Lager
This German Pils bridges the gap between traditional precision and modern hop intensity. Utilizing a hybrid lager yeast and a cold-side infusion of Cryo hops, it presents a heightened aromatic profile reminiscent of an India Pale Ale while maintaining the crisp backbone of a classic lager. The nose leads with intensified floral and spicy notes, underpinned by a clean, grainy-sweet malt presence. On the palate, the assertive hop bitterness is bright and sharp, supported by a light honeyed cracker maltiness. It finishes impeccably dry and refreshing, marrying the punchy herbal and resinous qualities of concentrated hop pellets with the elegant structure of a pale European lager.
Appearance. Straw to deep yellow (3–4 SRM). Brilliant clarity. Pours with a dense, creamy, long-lasting white head that leaves significant lacing on the glass.
Aroma. Moderately high hop intensity featuring punchy floral, spicy, and herbal notes with a modern resinous edge from the cryo-hopping. Low to medium grainy-sweet malt character, reminiscent of fresh dough and light honey. Very clean fermentation profile from the hybrid yeast with no significant esters.
Taste. Initial impression is a flash of grainy-sweet malt quickly overtaken by intense hop flavor and a firm, clean bitterness. Hop notes are herbal and spicy with a citrus-like brightness. Firm bitterness lingers into a crisp, dry finish. Malt provides a supportive toasted cracker base that remains balanced despite the heavy dry-hopping.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with a crisp, refreshing texture. High carbonation provides a lively effervescence. Subtle alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated. Smooth without astringency, featuring a slightly minerally, sharp finish.
