This Belgian Tripel pours a radiant golden-blonde, releasing a complex bouquet where apricot-driven esters meet a soft, sublime vanilla fragrance. Consistent with the St. Bernardus tradition, the palate is velvety and mellow, showcasing a honey-like malt sweetness derived from the pale malts that avoids becoming cloying. Spicy yeast phenols provide a peppery counterpoint to the rich fruitiness, while a subtle note of orange zest emerges in the lingering finish. Despite its strength, the beer remains exceptionally smooth and approachable, balancing a gentle hop bitterness with a soft, effervescent mouthfeel that deceptively hides its potency.

Appearance. Golden-blonde (6 SRM). Brilliant clarity with an attractive, creamy white, long-lasting rocky head and characteristic Belgian lacing.

Aroma. Moderate to high intensity. Complex bouquet of apricot and orange esters, complemented by a soft vanilla fragrance and spicy, peppery phenols. Low floral hops and a light, honey-like malt sweetness provide a supportive base.

Taste. Initial impression is mellow and velvety with honey-like malt sweetness. The flavor follows the aroma with pronounced apricot fruitiness and a subtle orange note in the aftertaste. Hop bitterness is medium and firm, balancing the sweetness. Spicy, peppery yeast character adds complexity through the finish, which is relatively dry and clean.

Mouthfeel. Medium body, though it feels lighter due to high, effervescent carbonation. Velvety and soft on the palate with very low alcohol warmth. No astringency.

Watou Tripel is a delicious Belgian Tripel beer from the St Bernardus Brewery. Watou tripel is a blond-amber colored beer with a full foam head. Refermentation in the bottle was used.

It has a fruity smell of banana and esters (This is the connection between alcohol & carboxylic acid). A slightly sweet and slightly bitter taste. You taste fresh fruit and malt. It has a dry and bitter aftertaste.

To put the taste in proportion you can compare it with the St. Bernardus tripel, but then slightly sweeter and slightly less bitter. Watou tripel is perfectly suited to use as an aperitif.
