Southern Crisp reinterprets the classic German Pils with a modern hop twist. This unfiltered lager presents a vibrant sensory profile where the traditional bready and crackery foundation of German Pilsner malt meets the distinctive, wine-like elegance of Nelson Sauvin hops. On the nose, expectant herbal and spicy notes are elevated by nuanced aromas of crushed white grapes and gooseberry. The palate is defined by a clean, crisp bitterness and a lean malt spine that finishes bone-dry. Its light body and effervescent carbonation make it exceptionally refreshing, balancing old-world technique with contemporary aromatic complexity.
Appearance.Straw to light gold (SRM 2-4). Being unfiltered, it displays a slight to moderate haze rather than the typical brilliance. It is topped by a creamy, long-lasting white head with excellent lacing.
Aroma.Moderate to moderately-high intensity. The aroma is led by the unique Nelson Sauvin hop profile, contributing notes of white wine, gooseberry, and light tropical fruit over traditional herbal and spicy scents. The malt provides a supporting low to medium grainy-sweet, crackery, and doughy foundation. Fermentation is very clean with no lager sulfur or esters.
Taste.Initial grainy and toasted cracker malt flavors are quickly superseded by a firm hop bitterness. The hop flavor features a blend of traditional spicy notes and modern vinous, grape-like qualities. It follows a clean fermentation profile through to a crisp, dry finish. The bitterness is medium-high and lingers into the aftertaste, accentuating the refreshing, parching quality of the style.
Mouthfeel.Medium-light body with a crisp, refreshing mouthfeel. Carbonation is medium-high, providing a lively prickle on the tongue. No alcohol warmth is perceived at 4.4% ABV, and the finish is clean without any astringency.
