Appearance. Opaque, jet-black (SRM 40+) with a thick, dense, dark tan to brown head. Head retention is moderate to low due to the high alcohol content and oils from the coffee and vanilla, leaving a viscous, slow-moving collar.
Aroma. High intensity. Prominent, deeply roasted Ethiopian coffee notes with hints of blueberry and citrus, layered with rich, sweet Madagascar vanilla. Underneath lies a robust base of dark chocolate, molasses, and charred oak from the Heaven Hill Bourbon barrels, alongside noticeable but clean ethanol warmth.
Taste. Rich, decadent, and complex. Initial flavors of dark chocolate-covered espresso beans and sweet vanilla bean paste. The mid-palate brings heavy roasted malt bitterness, caramelized sugar, and a woody bourbon character. Hop bitterness is moderate but masked by the roast and sweet barrel elements. The finish is long and warming, balancing vanilla sweetness with dark roast coffee and oak tannins.
Mouthfeel. Full and highly viscous, coating the palate with a velvety, creamy texture. Carbonation is low to moderate. A significant, smooth, and pleasant alcohol warmth is present, with minimal astringency despite the heavy roasted malts and coffee.
