This luxurious Imperial Stout emerges from nine months in Tawny Port wine barrels with an opulent sensory profile. The nose is greeted by an intense melange of bittersweet dark chocolate and rich caramel, intertwined with elegant vinous notes of red wine and toasted oak. On the palate, the decadent malt depth provides a canvas for sophisticated layers of vanilla and dried fruits like raisins and plums. The barrel aging imparts a dark, wine-like complexity that softens the robust roasted character of the base beer. Expect a silky, velvety texture that balances the significant strength, finishing with a harmonious blend of cocoa and lingering port-induced warmth.

Appearance. Jet black and opaque (SRM 40+). Pours with a thick, dense, deep tan head that shows moderate retention. Viscous legs are clearly visible on the glass, indicative of high alcohol and extract.

Aroma. High intensity. A complex blend of bittersweet chocolate, espresso, and burnt grain is complemented by prominent Tawny Port notes of raisins and dark berries. Oak-derived vanilla and light woody tannins are evident, backed by a clean, warming alcohol presence and very low earthy hops.

Taste. Initial impression is of intense dark chocolate and caramel sweetness. A firm roasted malt bitterness balances the richness, supported by flavors of toasted bread and cocoa. The mid-palate reveals red wine esters and spicy oak, leading to a long, warming finish with a lingering bittersweet character that is complex but never cloying.

Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and chewy with a velvety, luscious texture. Carbonation is low to moderate. A smooth, well-integrated alcohol warmth is noticeable and pleasant. Very low astringency despite the oak aging.
