Sofia Electric Brewing

This Imperial Stout presents a decadent sensory experience, defined by twelve months of whisky barrel maturation. The initial impact is a rich tapestry of bittersweet chocolate and espresso roast, seamlessly interwoven with the creamy, tropical sweetness of toasted coconut and Madagascar vanilla. The time in oak introduces sophisticated notes of charred wood and premium whisky, which mellow the intense roasted grains. Underlying esters of dried figs and prunes provide a subtle dark fruit depth. This is a viscous, warming beer where the high alcohol is elegantly integrated into a velvety, dessert-like profile that remains harmonious and profoundly complex.

Appearance. Opaque, jet black with deep ruby highlights at the edges. It pours with a thick, mocha-colored head that shows moderate retention, leaving a viscous film and prominent legs on the glass due to the 14.5% alcohol content.

Aroma. High intensity aromas of dark chocolate, roasted coffee beans, and charred oak. The barrel aging contributes distinct whisky notes and sweet vanilla, while the coconut provides a rich, macaroon-like character. Low esters of raisins and prunes are present, alongside a noticeable but smooth alcohol warmth.

Taste. A massive, complex initial impression of bittersweet cocoa and burnt grain. Mid-palate reveals layers of creamy vanilla and sweet coconut that soften the roasted edges. The whisky barrel influence adds depth with flavors of caramel and toasted oak. Bitterness is moderate to firm but balanced by a lingering, sweet finish of chocolate and spirit-like warmth.

Mouthfeel. Full and extremely viscous, with a chewy, luscious, and velvety texture. Carbonation is low to moderate. A significant, smooth alcohol warmth is present throughout the palate, enhancing the beer’s substantial presence without being harsh or solventy.
