The name comes from an old marking system where beers were labeled with Xs to indicate strength. Three Xs or a “Tripel” was the strongest you could get. Threefold is brewed with a Belgian yeast strain for classic spicy, fruity notes, and naturally carbonated through re-fermentation, just like the originals.
