Slow Lane Brewing Outback Sky

Outback Sky is a sophisticated Flanders Red Ale crafted from a meticulous blend of nine and twenty-four-month-old barrel-aged stocks. This interpretation of the "Burgundy of Belgium" presents a profound sensory landscape where deep reddish-brown hues meet an aromatic complexity of black cherries, red currants, and plums. The extended maturation in oak barrels imparts subtle tannins and vanilla nuances that structure the sharp edge of acetic acid against a backdrop of rich, toasty malts. On the palate, a vibrant sourness intertwines with dark fruit esters and a dry, wine-like finish, delivering a crisp yet layered experience that balances bright acidity with elegant malt depth.
Appearance. Deep burgundy to reddish-brown in color (SRM 15-17). Displays good clarity with a very pale tan head that shows average retention and light lacing.
Aroma. High intensity complex fruity-sour profile featuring prominent notes of black cherries, plums, and red currants. A supporting toasty malt character is present alongside low vanilla and oak notes. A light, balanced acetic acid character adds a sharp, vinegary brightness without being dominant.
Taste. Initial impression is sharply sour and fruity, with intense flavors of black cherry and fruit leather. Moderate toasty-rich malt provides a soft sweetness that balances the complex acidity. Low oak-derived tannins and vanilla are evident. The finish is dry and wine-like, with a lingering tartness and no perceived hop bitterness or flavor.
Mouthfeel. Medium body with a prickly acidity and low to medium carbonation. Features a low to medium tannic astringency that provides a structure reminiscent of a red wine. Deceivingly light on the palate despite the malt complexity.
