Fourfold is a sophisticated Belgian Dark Strong Ale that honors monastic tradition with its immense depth and complexity. It presents an aromatic bouquet of dark fruit, specifically highlighting luscious notes of raisin, dates, and figs, underpinned by a rich, bready-toasty malt foundation. On the palate, the beer delivers an intense caramel and dark sugar profile, creating a luxurious malty sweetness. Subtle peppery phenols and a perfumy alcohol presence provide a classic Belgian counterpoint to the fruit-forward character. Appearance. Deep mahogany to coppery-brown in color (SRM 18-22). Boasts a huge, dense, and persistent light tan head with excellent lacing. Generally clear, though a slight haze may be present given the strength.
Aroma. High intensity with a rich, bready-toasty malt base and deep dark caramel. Prominent esters of raisins, plums, and dried cherries are complemented by low spicy phenols of black pepper and vanilla. Soft, perfumy alcohol is noticeable but refined.
Taste. Initial malt richness leads to flavors of dark sugar, caramel, and toasted bread. Deep dark fruit flavors of figs and dates dominate the mid-palate. Bitterness is medium-low, providing just enough balance against the malt sweetness. The finish is moderately dry and smooth, with a lingering aftertaste of dark fruit and warming alcohol.
Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a creamy, velvety texture. High carbonation provides a lively lift to the palate. Noticeable, smooth alcohol warmth is present without any harsh solvent character.
