SixºNorth Darkness Inside presents a decadent sensory journey, merging a robust dark base with the earthy complexity of Muscovado sugar and freshly roasted coffee. The aroma is dominated by dark-roasted beans and a deep, molasses-like sweetness that suggests dark stone fruits. On the palate, the initial richness of the Muscovado provides a velvety foundation, which quickly gives way to a firm, dark chocolate bitterness and lingering espresso notes. Despite its intensity, the beer remains balanced, offering a harmonious interplay between sweet unrefined sugar and charred grains, finishing with a clean, dry roastiness that invites the next sip.

Appearance. Deep ebony to opaque black (SRM 35-40). Topped by a dense, persistent tan head with fine lacing. Clarity is brilliant when held to light, though the beer is mostly opaque.

Aroma. High intensity of freshly ground coffee and dark chocolate. Prominent notes of molasses and burnt sugar from the Muscovado, complemented by underlying hints of raisin and plum. Hop aroma is very low, allowing the roasted malt and coffee to lead.

Taste. Initial impression is rich and sweet with Muscovado-derived toffee and molasses. This is followed by a mid-palate of bittersweet dark chocolate and intense roasted coffee. Hop bitterness is moderate-high, reinforced by the roasted grain character. The finish is long and dry with a lingering espresso and charred wood aftertaste.

Mouthfeel. Medium-full body with a smooth, almost creamy texture. Carbonation is moderate. A gentle alcohol warmth is present, though well-integrated, with no noticeable astringency despite the heavy roast.
