Siren Craft Brew Death By Caribbean Chocolate Cake (2024)

Sweet Stout 12.2 º
This Imperial Stout presents a decadent sensory feast, pouring like liquid obsidian with a dense, mocha foam. The aroma is an intense tapestry of dark chocolate and roasted malts, interwoven with the festive brightness of orange zest and the cherry-vanilla allure of tonka bean. On the palate, deep cocoa and nutty almond extract meld with a blend of warming spices, creating a complex, dessert-like experience. At 12.2% ABV, a smooth alcohol warmth supports the full, velvety body without overpowering the intricate layers of spice and citrus. It concludes with a long, bittersweet finish where roasted grains and zesty orange linger harmoniously.
Appearance. Jet black and opaque (40+ SRM). Pours with a thick, creamy, dark tan head that shows moderate retention and leaves significant lacing. High viscosity is apparent through visible legs on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity. Dominated by rich bittersweet chocolate, cocoa, and roasted coffee bean malt notes. The secondary layer is highly complex, featuring sweet almond, vanilla-like tonka bean, and a prominent bright citrus lift from orange zest. Subtle hints of cinnamon and nutmeg spices emerge as the beer warms, supported by dark fruit esters like raisins and a clean, well-integrated alcohol presence.
Taste. The initial impression is intensely rich and sweet, led by dark chocolate and toasted nuts. The middle palate reveals a sophisticated interplay of zesty orange peel and almond extract. Hop bitterness is moderate but provides necessary balance against the heavy malt backbone. Spicing provides a festive, warming glow. The finish is long and complex, transitioning from sweet cocoa and spice to a dry, roasted grain and slightly pithy orange aftertaste.
Mouthfeel. Full to very full-bodied with a luscious, chewy, and velvety texture. Carbonation is low to moderate, enhancing the creamy mouthfeel. A noticeable but smooth alcohol warmth is present, reflecting its high gravity without being harsh or solventy.
