Swindling Your Inheritance is a luxurious Imperial Stout that artfully marries the intensity of dark-roasted malts with the refined character of a Linkwood Distillery whisky barrel. The aroma is dominated by freshly roasted coffee and sweet vanilla pods, which weave through notes of Speyside whisky and toasted oak. On the palate, a velvety blend of Sinnister and Otherworld stouts delivers deep layers of dark chocolate and espresso, balanced by the softening presence of vanilla and a gentle whisky warmth. Despite its 11.5% ABV, it remains remarkably smooth, finishing with a lingering, sweet-yet-roasted complexity and a full, creamy mouthfeel.
Appearance. Opaque, ebony black (SRM 40+). Pours with a thick, creamy, mocha-colored head with good retention and lacing. Some particulate haze may be present from the use of real coffee and vanilla pods.
Aroma. High intensity. Bold, earthy coffee and aromatic vanilla pods lead the profile. Deep base of roasted grains, dark chocolate, and molasses. The Speyside whisky barrel contributes notes of honey, orchard fruit, and toasted oak vanillin. Clean fermentation with low esters and no detectable phenols.
Taste. Initial rich malt sweetness of chocolate and caramel, followed by robust coffee flavor and a creamy vanilla mid-palate. Moderate bitterness is bolstered by roasted grain and coffee acidity. The whisky barrel influence provides a smooth, warming finish with hints of toasted wood and malt Scotch. Complex, balanced, and remarkably easy-drinking for the strength.
Mouthfeel. Full, viscous body with a silky, creamy texture. Low to moderate carbonation. Significant alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated and smooth, never harsh or fusel. Minimal astringency despite the heavy roast.
