This Imperial Stout presents an opulent sensory tapestry, blending deep roasted foundations with the exotic influence of Plantation Rum barrels and Brazilian Amburana wood. A collaboration resulting in a rich chocolatey profile, it leads with intense aromas of dark cocoa and black molasses, swiftly followed by the Amburana’s signature cinnamon and gingerbread spice. On the palate, a velvety texture carries decadent layers of vanilla and toasted oak, melded with the dark fruit esters of the base stout. The high alcohol content provides a refined, spirit-forward warmth that lingers through a long, complex finish of spiced chocolate and dark malt.
Appearance. Jet black and opaque (40 SRM). Forms a dense, deep tan head with moderate retention and significant lacing. High viscosity is evidenced by slow-moving legs on the glass.
Aroma. High intensity and complex. Dominant notes of bittersweet chocolate and espresso roast are layered with Plantation Rum's molasses and oak. Brazilian Amburana wood contributes powerful aromatics of cinnamon, vanilla, and baking spices. Subtle dark fruit esters of prune and raisin emerge as it warms.
Taste. Initial impression of dark chocolate and vanilla fudge, followed by the spicy warmth of Amburana wood. Malt flavors of bread crust and toasted grain support a firm but smooth bitterness. The finish is long and warming, featuring lingering notes of spiced rum, cocoa, and a hint of sandalwood.
Mouthfeel. Full-bodied and chewy with a velvety, luscious texture. Carbonation is low, enhancing the creamy mouthfeel. A significant, smooth alcohol warmth is present but well-integrated, avoiding any harsh solvent notes.
