Simple Things’ US Brown is a hoppy brown ale which almost strays into bitter West Coast IPA territory with it’s hop profile of Cascade, Centennial, Chinook & Talus, but is pulled back by it’s malty body.
Simple Things say “Very much embracing the West Coast hopping vibes with the classic Cascade-Chinook-Centennial combo offering their elegant and irresistible citrus + pine flavours and employing newer-school hero Talus to lift things to another level and putting a 2023 stamp on it.
“This is already a beautiful thing, believe me, and we might well repeat this hopping regime in a paler beer next year because it’s a nailed-on knockout WC IPA.
“But – the seasons change; days shorten, temperatures drop and one of the few consolations of leaving summer behind is the arrival of darker beers. Brown Ale is an ideal style to bridge the gap, and here we have the perfect foil for the aforementioned hop combo in the form of a creamy chocolate and cold-brew coffee foundation, courtesy of a grist that runs through various Crystal malts plus Low Colour Chocolate, Melanoidin, Munich, Oats and a sturdy Maris Otter foundation.
“The end result is a super-suppable Brown Ale that sits right at the crossroads of old and new, dark and light, smooth and decadent but zesty and refreshing.”
