What’s a Wit? It’s light, bright and fruity without sacrificing complexity, super accessible while offering something different to an IPA or lager.

This is a fruity, floral Belgian Wit brewed with fresh elderflower sprays harvested from the tree next to the brewery door. Deep golden straw in colour with a slight haze and white head. Light, sweet aroma of elderflower and sharp orange citrus with hints of spice. True to the Wit style it’s refreshing and well balanced; elderflower leads the flavour without dominating and there’s lemonade and honey too, providing a real thirst quenching quality that belies the sturdy 6.2% ABV. The finish is crisp and dry with a modest but lingering bitterness.

Phil from Simple Things says “We brewed this one for Collabfest with Brewdog Stirling and went no further than a couple of metres from the door of the brewery to harvest the star ingredient. The kegs all went to BD but we were so pleased with it we brewed a batch for bottles too. The last of the Big Ideas Series beers to go into bottles, as it turns out.

“The most pleasing thing for us is the balance – we managed to add just enough elderflower to justify it being in the name without completely overpowering the beer and bypassing the Wit elements. I’ve pulled this trick off before with Raindrops On Roses, the rose petal Wit that won me the Thornbridge/Waitrose home brew challenge in 2016, and we used that recipe as the starting point for this beer.”
