Simple Things can’t call this beer a Kölsch because Kölsch needs to be brewed in Cologne, so they have called it a German Ale, but its brewed as a Kölsch and will be recognisable to anyone who has tried this beer style – a hybrid between a lager and a pale ale.
German Pilsner malt provides a bready base with a pinch of Tettnang hops late in the boil adding a touch of freshness, but the Kölsch yeast fermentation is the key to this beer, bringing sublimely restrained fruity esters that complement and lift everything else.
