Extra Special Bloke is a vibrant Best Bitter that balances British tradition with a subtle modern hop profile. A base of Extra pale ale malt provides a crisp, bready foundation, while a 5% addition of Crystal malt introduces delicate whispers of caramel and toffee. The aromatic profile is defined by Bramling Cross hops, contributing signature notes of spicy blackcurrant and herbal hedgerow fruit, while a light whirlpool addition of Simcoe adds a nuanced layer of pine and resinous depth. Fermented with a dry English ale yeast, this collaboration offers a clean, fruity ester profile and a decidedly bitter, refreshing finish that prioritizes high drinkability.
Appearance. 8–12 SRM; pale amber to light copper; clear to brilliant clarity; moderate off-white head with fair retention and light lacing.
Aroma. Moderate intensity; bready and biscuity malt with a light toffee-like caramel edge; prominent earthy and spicy hop notes from Bramling Cross featuring hints of dark berries; a faint resinous pine flick from Simcoe; low fruity esters.
Taste. Initial bready malt sweetness yields to a firm, moderately high bitterness. Flavors of biscuit and light caramel from the Crystal malt are balanced by herbal, spicy, and blackcurrant hop character. A subtle citrus and pine note emerges mid-palate. Finishes dry and clean with a lingering earthy hop bitterness and no diacetyl.
Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with moderate carbonation. Smooth texture with a very light alcoholic warmth appropriate for its 4.8% strength. No astringency.
